Hi Gemma, my bread (homemade) got really soft and lost in the mix. Once it was cooked, I could distinguish the bread from the egg. What did I do wrong or was that right? However, it tasted really good but a little mushy.

  5. Sandy on September 15, 2016 at 7:17 am

Hi Gemma, my bread was day old homemade bread. It kind of got lost in the mix. It was really soft and a little mushy. I couldn’t distinguish the egg from the bread. Should it be that soft? Was my bread to fresh? P.S. It was still good.

    • Profile photo of Gemma Stafford Gemma Stafford on September 17, 2016 at 2:39 am

Hi Sandy, that is too bad! I really do not know what went wrong, I suppose it depends on what your bread ingredients were too 🙂

    • Poppy Boeijen on September 20, 2016 at 4:30 am

Maybe you could try to use a little less milk. Or you could put it in the microwave a bit longer?

YEA! I am delighted to hear that, well done you 🙂

  7. Frances on September 16, 2016 at 9:48 pm

I actually tried to make my own version of savory french toast before, but it was much simpler (I just added garlic, an herb mix & a tiny bit of chili powder). It actually was good, so I tried your recipe minus the salt/pepper & combined it with my own seasoning mix; the result was *way* better! I highly recommend anyone using this recipe to consider their own combination of herbs & spices to kick it up a notch (& while your at it send your praises to Gemma for coming up with this in the first place [:)]). Thanks for the great recipe Gemma!

    • Profile photo of Gemma Stafford Gemma Stafford on September 17, 2016 at 2:05 am

That is the idea Frances, make these recipes your own 🙂

I added a little vanilla, a little real bacon bits. Didn’t have ham, so I used turkey lunchmeat. And I like a little BBC sauce.

Nice! good to see people making these recipes their own!

  12. Gaya on October 19, 2016 at 5:02 am

    Hi Gemma,
I’m 12 years old and I love your mug recipes i use them as an afternoon snack when I come home from school. I love to cook and bake and have been baking ever since i was 4. These mug recipes also keep my mum happy as they have no mess at all. I was wondering could you leave out the ham or replace it with something else because I have run out of ham.
    Thank you

    • Profile photo of Gemma Stafford Gemma Stafford on October 20, 2016 at 2:20 am

Hi Gaya, That is lovely to hear, what a great little bold baker you are! You can of course leave out the ham, and add other ingredients too, if you wish. Just remember not to add raw meats to these mug recipes as they will not cook properly in the time. Gemma 🙂

  13. Addy Allen on November 13, 2016 at 8:46 am

Do you happen to have the nutritional info for this recipe

    • Profile photo of Gemma Stafford Gemma Stafford on November 13, 2016 at 8:51 pm

I just updated it there for you, Addy. It’s 403 calories per serving but just note the 1 large slice of generic bread was 100. Cut down on cheese and maybe a whole grain slice if you are trying to cut down on the calories.

      P.s It’s absolutely delicious.
      Gemma.
