I was just wondering, could I use quick oats for this recipe or do they have to be rolled?

    • Gemma Stafford on August 28, 2016 at 2:14 am

      Hi there,
Yes you can, though not when it is powdered for this one!
      Gemma 🙂

  4. Colleena on August 11, 2016 at 10:39 am

Could you use instant oats instead of rolled?

    • Gemma Stafford on August 11, 2016 at 10:48 am

      Hi Colleena,
If the oats are not ground too fine it should be ok,
      Gemma 🙂

  5. Rebecca on April 3, 2016 at 11:48 am

    Hi Gemma,
Is it possible to use oat bran? I have oat bran in my cupboard and I was hoping to use it with your delicious microwave oatmeal recipes!

    • Gemma Stafford on April 4, 2016 at 9:20 am

      Hi Rebecca,
Oat bran is the husk of the oats, and as such is not a flour, but could be added to oats to boost them, also to flours to boost their nutritional quality. I know you know about adding this to soda breads, but you can also add it to other flours, not too much though!
      Gemma 🙂

  6. Minna on March 11, 2016 at 12:46 am

The only ingredient you can alter or control in terms of measurement is the amojnt of salt, sugar and chilli.
For anyone who wishes tto learn about these ltong Pinoy recipes,
one just needs to explore using the internet via onnline Philippine recipes.
So freeze in single layers and doo not overlap food if you can help it.

    • Gemma Stafford on March 11, 2016 at 12:56 pm

Hi Minna, I suppose this is good advice, balance is so important in a recipe, if oyu change an ingredient, you change the result, thank you for your contribution,
      Gemma 🙂

  7. Sharanya on January 29, 2016 at 4:45 pm

SO do we just mix the water oats and cinnamion and garnish with apples?? (I LOVE UR VIDEOS)

    • Gemma Stafford on January 30, 2016 at 5:33 pm

yes but you can also put apples into with the apples, water and oats. Happy baking 🙂

  8. Meg T on November 28, 2015 at 1:51 pm

I made this oatmeal this morning but it didn’t work as well as your others. It was too wet as there was so much water… I microwaved it for over two minutes and it was still really watery ? I don’t know what I did wrong as I followed the recipe exactly… All the other ones are amazing though ☺️

  9. Silvia on October 20, 2015 at 12:41 pm

Ever since you posted this recipe I have been making it nonstop. It is so good, so healthy and so full of autumn flavor that I even had it for breakfast and dessert today.

    Hi Gemma,

Have been watching your videos lately. Your 1 min microwave recipes are awesome. I just made these. Needless to say it was quick and yummy. I used organic thick rolled oats, it took close to 2 mins stirring in between. Eager to try your other recipes. More fall recipes pls….

  12. Nicki on September 3, 2015 at 7:26 pm

This mug cake is delicious! I absolutely love all of your mug cake recipes! ? Also, is it easier to use a shallower mug? Because sometimes mine don’t cook all the way down to the bottom but they’re almost over cooked on top…

    • Gemma Stafford on September 4, 2015 at 8:18 pm

Thank you so much, Nicki. Really glad you liked this recipe. I think a shallower mug will help it cook faster. Every microwave and mug is different. Let me know how it goes for you 🙂

  13. Ruma on August 27, 2015 at 4:06 am

Can I use strawberries insted of blueberries

    • Gemma Stafford on July 9, 2015 at 2:57 pm

for sure. I often put strawberries in mine and they are sweeter so I add less honey. 🙂

  21. Mery! on July 2, 2015 at 4:33 am

Hi Gemma! I’ m digging in into my mug right now! At first the oatmeal was runny and the apples watery, but then I gave it a quick stir, added an extra splash of cinammon and low fat sweetener, and also let it rest for about a minute to let the steam come out and hell yeahhh It was delicious! Breakfasts on the go are my thing! Waiting for the bread series and in the mean time having a blast with your recipes! Send my hugs to Waffles! Ha!

    • Gemma Stafford on July 6, 2015 at 11:15 am

    • Gemma Stafford on June 29, 2015 at 2:18 pm

Hi, Thank you so much for your lovely message.

So the difference between them all is 2 things, quantity and ingredients. Some have more then others, different amounts of liquid and different ingredients. Remember that baking recipes are just made up, they are engineered so that every ingredient works with the other to help have a success final product. Thank you for voting for me 🙂

  25. June Perry on June 22, 2015 at 6:15 pm

Hello, do you have a blueberry oatmeal recipe like this you can share? Thanks!

    • Gemma Stafford on June 22, 2015 at 10:39 pm

I’ll add it to my list June. Usually for my blueberry oatmeal I do the same as this recipe but ad vanilla instead of cinnamon and put toasted hazelnuts on top. And if you have a drop of cream in your house that doesn’t hurt 🙂

  26. Elise on June 22, 2015 at 1:04 pm

Thank you for this recipe! I always made mine by sautéing the apple in butter and cinnamon but this way is so much faster and easier. That is very important to me as I just became paralyzed last year and it has been a huge adjustment for me in the kitchen. So thank you for all of your easy and delicious recipes!

    • Gemma Stafford on June 22, 2015 at 10:23 pm

      Hi Elise,

thank you so much for your message. I am sorry to hear that but am glad you find my recipes useful. I already have around 20 existing mug cakes and I will definitely have more to come. If you need an easy recipe for something that is usually complex just ask me and hopefully I can help 🙂

Can you post your double chocolate mug cookie and caramelized banana dairy free ice cream on your site.

  29. Suja on June 20, 2015 at 10:39 pm

It’s a great recipe and whenever I make oatmeal, I use a bowl and cook it in the microwave too- but to make it more creamier, I use milk instead of water. It cooks and tastes just as well but you have to make sure it doesn’t froth over so microwave in intervals. 🙂

    • Gemma Stafford on June 22, 2015 at 3:50 pm

Great tips! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • Tonia on March 8, 2016 at 12:43 pm

I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of water. Makes it yummy!!! and, just use a mug or bowl that the oatmeal can “grow” in and there’s not worry of it making a mess. 😉

      • Gemma Stafford on March 9, 2016 at 3:35 am

Hi Tonia, I love it when my followers make the recipes their own! it really encourages me, so very well done to you,
        Gemma 🙂

  30. Kammie on June 20, 2015 at 12:57 pm

    • Gemma Stafford on June 18, 2015 at 7:24 pm

Thanks so much, delighted you liked this recipe. It for sure would work in the oven. Make sure t put a lid on it so the steam cooked and puffs the oats.

          Hi Katlin,

you can do that just the best thing is just to mix it up the night before and then throw the mug into the microwave in the morning without having to do any more prep 🙂
