Pumpkin Pie Spice is a beautiful marriage of spices that are used in both sweet and savory cooking. Generally made up of a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger and all spice it is a welcomed addition to any pumpkin dish especially around the holidays.

Let’s face it, when you start to see Pumpkin-spiced everything you know the Holidays are just around the corner. There are things that trigger the holidays for me like crisp weather, darker evenings and certain flavors. Spices like cinnamon, ginger, all spice are those such flavors that to me taste like Christmas and they signify happy times.

Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice is a fantastic addition to your holiday baking and it's really easy to make your own.

Fall is baking season. It is a time when fair weather bakers dust off their cook books and start to get into the spirit of the season. We all indulge (and then some) in Pies, desserts and cookies galore. Even as someone who bakes pretty much on a daily basis, I do tend to go all-in during the holidays leaving no cookie uneaten. I commit to it. So, put on that apron, find your rolling pin and cookie cutters and get stuck into the Holiday season. There are so many wonderful recipes to make, you need to get cracking already.

Feel free to use your Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice in your  baking in replace of cinnamon. With the addition of the extra spices it will add more flavor and depth to your Fall baking. It’s all of those spices that give you a warm feeling inside.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice

Instructions

  • Mix all together to make pumpkin pie spice.
  • Store in a labeled airtight container for up to 6 months.
  • Multiply the recipe to make a full jar so you have it to hand for all of your Holiday baking.

My husband just bought a huge pumpkin. Thinking about making pumpkin pie (never done it before!), but I don’t have nutmeg to make the mix spice. Can you recommend a substitute?
