Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons  (1 ¼oz/35g) all-purpose flour
  • 3 - 4 tablespoons  (1oz/28g) * unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 tablespoons (3floz/90ml) milk
  • 2 tablespoons flavorless oil (canola oil/vegetable oil/sunflower oil)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In a medium microwavable mug (roughly 1 cup measurement) mix together the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, and salt.

  2. In to the dry ingredients add in the milk, oil, and vanilla extract and mix together until you form your batter.

  3. Mix in the chocolate chips. (If you don’t want to cook them off straight away, then place them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.)

  4. Microwave for 1 minute 40 seconds - 1 minute 50 seconds or until it has risen and the batter doesn't look wet. (Timing is based on my 1200W microwave so your timing might vary).

  5. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream & enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Cocoa is an acid ingredient - if you find it too strong adding a pinch of bicarbonate of soda will mellow it out or - reduce the amount of cocoa

Cooking time will vary greatly depending on your microwave and the width and depth of the mug.

Always keep a close eye on your mug while in the microwave so it doesn’t overflow or overcook

Nutritional value: The calories are high due to sugar and oil. To lower these you can use more natural sugars and oil like coconut.
