Hi Bold Bakers!

Fall is Pie Season! But let’s not make plain old regular pies, let’s shake things up a bit. We are going to put a Big and Bold twist on a traditional pie with Dessert Egg Rolls. Oh, and did I mention they are baked not fried?

So what are egg rolls? Traditionally they are savory Asian Fried Rolls that you find at a take-away. However, we are baking ours and saving our calories for more dessert. They still come out golden and delicious without the extra fat.

The egg roll wrappers are available in Asian Markets in the freezer section but I also put a link below to buy them online. Failing that you can always use filo pastry or puff pastry.

These Dessert Egg Rolls pack a big punch for a small dessert. Make up a few flavors so your guests have a variety to taste. And if you make all three flavors you can do a Dessert Egg Rolls roulette.

If you are one of those people who is ahead of the game and buys their Christmas presents in August, I’m also guessing you prep your Holiday meals in a similar fashion. So you will be happy to know that you can make these Dessert Egg Rolls in advance and freeze them. Then once the Holidays roll around, and you have neighbors and family dropping in unexpected, you can just pop them in the oven from frozen.

So let’s talk fillings…

The apple recipe was delicious! Smaller apple pieces were better though. Also, we tried baking half the batch and lightly frying the other half. Frying was definitely better! Thanks for sharing these. 🙂

Can I use rice paper rolls if I cannot find egg rolls? I am thinking of doubling the paper to make it thicker. Thank you

Please please I need a recipe for a blueberry pie egg roll. I want to make these for my 96 year young father. We have an abundance of wild blueberries we picked this summer. And this would be perfect for him instead of a whole pie to eat. Please and thank you in abvance.
