I’m a professionally-trained chef/baker originally from Ireland, and I want to get you Boldly Baking with confidence anytime, anywhere.
What is "Bold Baking"?
Bold Baking is the style I developed over the years baking in tiny kitchens all the way to a Michelin-Starred restaurant. It’s about taking risks in the kitchen and being confident that you can create the best results. No special equipment needed, no rare ingredients, just a daring approach to making something impressive for yourself or to share. And you don’t have to be a professional to do it.
My Background & Bold Baking Journey
I was born in a small town in the South East of Ireland, and my passion for baking drove me to train as a professional chef before studying with legendary chef Darina Allen at the world-renowned Ballymaloe cookery school in County Cork.
After that I used my new skills as a passport to travel the globe and open doors into the culinary world. I've worked as a personal chef in Italy and on the slopes in Australia, but I was drawn to the United States and the possibilities it might hold. Working in bakeries and a Michelin-Starred restaurant in San Francisco, I gained more knowledge and drive to open my own catering business for top tech companies specializing in over-the-top breakfast creations.
Now, along with my co-creator and husband Kevin, I’m pursuing my lifelong dream of teaching people my trade and sharing my culinary adventures and Bold Baking secrets with other Bold Bakers everywhere. We currently live with our dog Waffles in Santa Monica, CA.

Kevin Kurtz is an entertainment producer and marketing expert with 20 years of experience managing and growing legendary entertainment franchises including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Pokémon, The Sims and Words With Friends. His work at Lucasfilm, Electronic Arts, Disney Pixar, and Zynga spans theatrical, home entertainment, TV and video games across all media platforms. Kevin produced and promoted more than 200 hours of blockbuster films and award-winning documentaries, trailers, TV commercials and online content for audiences of all ages. He's passionate about cultivating large fan communities and delivering the best experiences to further their own passions.
Now Kevin is excited to team up with Gemma to create digital content and brands that inspire and delight audiences everywhere. He directs and produces Bigger Bolder Baking sharing Gemma’s Bold Baking vision with the world. Kevin's favorite episode is No-Bake OREO Cheesecake because he loves the video intro.
Waffles is a Terrier mix and the official mascot of Bigger Bolder Baking. He was rescued 4 years ago from Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles. When Gemma and Kevin are filming, Waffles enjoys sleeping in his bed until someone comes to play with him. He loves to eat cake, even when he's not supposed to, and his favorite episode is now Homemade Ice Cream for Dogs because he just can't get enough of it.
