Microwave Mug Savory French Toast (Microwave Mug Meals)
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 5 tablespoons white bread , cubed (roughly 1 slice bread)
- 3 tablespoons grated cheddar
- 3 tablespoon cooked ham
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a microwave safe mug, mix together the egg and milk.
- Add the bread, ham, cheese and salt and pepper. Stir until combined.
- Let it stand for 5 minutes for the bread to soak up the custard. Press it down so the bread is submerged within the liquid.
- Microwave for roughly 1½ - 2 minutes. I suggest checking it after 1 minute and go from there. The timing is based on my 1200W Panasonic Inverter Microwave so yours might vary.
- Serve straight away while still warm.
Recipe Notes
Cooking time will vary depending on your microwave and the width and depth of the mug
I’ve made several of these mug meals now and they are all amazing. I actually made this for my family for dinner, as I had eggs that needed to be used up. I added spring onion and cherry tomatoes. It’s so hot right now (Australia) that I didn’t want to use the oven or stove. This went down very well and my kids asked me to put it on a list of ‘favourite dinners ever’! It was so quick and easy and my kitchen is not roasting hot. Win!
I came across your site yesterday and decided to try out this mug recipe for breakfast!! (I’m planning on many of your desserts in the coming weeks). To this recipe, I also added paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and Italian seasoning. It was delicious, and my one year old loved it as well!!!❤️
hi! any conversion time for putting in toaster oven? I don’t do microwaves 🙂 Thanks in advance 😀
yum!
Amazing!.
Must try
I tried this tonight and it was really quick and easy. I used brown bread, a mix of mozzarella and cheddar and added some garlic powder and onion powder to the mix (didn’t have any spring onions).
something that would be REALLY helpful in all of your recipes is to provide measurements in grams too, or some other sensible option like ‘slice’ of bread, especially where this makes more sense than tablespoons (ham, cheese)
Hi Gemma,
I made this one today for my mom’s breakfast and it turned out great!! So fulling and savory. I used whole wheat bread, added extra cheese on top and it goes so well. My microwave is 800 watts so I put it in 2 and half minutes. Definitely going to make this again and try other recipes too. Thanks Gemma
Love,
Ika
Hey gemma. For the savory French toast can I use a bagel instead of white bread?
I had to substitute bread for breadcrumbs since we apparently didn’t have any whole bread left. Still tastes delicious! Thank you for the recipe
Seems like it’s too runny, even after 2-1/2 mins in a 1200 watt microwave. Help!
