Hi Bold Bakers!
Black Forest Gateau is a bit of a retro dessert; it’s a popular flavor being both tart and sweet. The rich chocolate and sweetness of the cherries make for one memorable dessert. And my Black Forest Gateau Frozen Yogurt is an incredible way to bring back this flavor in a bold way.
Frozen Yogurt is so many things. It’s an after school treat, a late night snack and a dessert that scratches your sweet tooth itch.
My Frozen Yogurts are made using just a hand full of ingredients and best of all no ice cream machine. No Machine Frozen Yogurt means not having to worry about not owning an ice cream machine. I like to make recipes that are accessible to everyone as much as I can.
No Machine Homemade Frozen Yogurt means not having to worry about not owning an expensive ice cream machine. I like to make recipes that are accessible to everyone as much as I can. I don’t own an ice cream machine and I’m guessing a lot of you don’t either. What I do own is a food processor. My food processor is used for a multitude of recipes in my kitchen and I love it. There’s not much it can’t do so when I tried to make my own version of frozen yogurt in it I knew it was up to the challenge. The results are a smooth and creamy Frozen Yogurt that is second to none.

Gemma’s Pro Chef Tips
- You can use fresh cherries for this but it can be labor intensive to pit, and fresh, in-season cherries can be quite expensive. If you are lucky enough to have some, save these for enjoying plain and stick to a bag of frozen cherries for this recipe.
- We like bittersweet chocolate around here but feel free to use any type of chooclate you like for this recipe.
- The chocolate should be chopped roughly but in small pieces since chocolate freezes quite hard.
- Serve this with a drizzle of chocolate syrup!
- This frozen yogurt can get icy if stored too long. We suggest eating this within a few days of making it for the best texture.

Was wondering if there was any nutritional information on this recipe? I’d like to try it with a couple clients that are on special diets and have to watch carb intake
Hey gemma, I just made this and the consistency was very liquidy, unlike the one u got in ur video, did i add more yogurt? i used frozen cherries…. or is it because i used a motor mixer, did i over mix it? because the last one i made was mango lime and the consistency was fine in that.
Gemma these look yummy!! My husband really wants me to make chocolate and peanut butter frozen yogurt. Any suggestions on how to do this?
Hi Gemma! This recipe came out delicious. It’s super creamy when freshly blended. But if I freeze leftovers, it turns rock solid. And I noticed that when eating it immediately, there are chunks of hardened honey. I think the honey freezes during the blending process because of the icy cherries, and that’s why it doesn’t keep the froyo smooth like it should. Any tips?
Hi Gemma! Do you think you’ll post a Black Forest cake soon? Or could you please suggest a good recipe I could use. Thanks!
Hi Gemma, The flavors of your Black Forest Gateau are amazing!! Thank you so much for creating such a delicious dessert. I cam’t believe how quick and easy it is to create a frozen yogurt (although mine seemed to resemble more of a sorbet) but that’s ok – the chocolate and cherry flavors are so good. I’m fairly new to your website thanks to a recommendation from a friend and I’m really enjoying browsing through all your recipes. I definitely plan to try some more of them so keep up the good work. And if you’re looking for any new… Read more »
