Hi Bold Bakers!
Gemma here, and this week on Knead to Know we cover a lot of ground! Mia and I dive right in with an important and personal question… do we ever get hangry? Kristen Bell’s daughter leaving hangry notes around the house has got us smiling this week… and also reliving memories of hiding cookies in nightstands (thanks for that, Mia). We also talk about what unexpected and dangerous tool Queen Elizabeth recently tried to cut a cake with, galettes versus pie (and which one is better for summer), and if we’d ever try Oreo Sushi. Well, I guess you’ll have to listen to find out!
While I’m here—Happy Fathers Day to all of the dads out there. We couldn’t do without you! Here’s what we chatted about this week on the show:
Queen Elizabeth Cuts Her Cake… With A Sword
@likebyregina THE BEST cake cutting trick that you need to know! #bakingtrick #caketrick #bakingtip #fyp #cutthecake #bakingtiktok
Last weekend, Queen Elizabeth insisted on cutting a cake with a ceremonial sword, and apparently, it was hilarious. Someone told her there was a knife, and she said “I know there is.” Ah, a queen after my own heart. Mia asks me the craziest thing I’ve ever cut a cake with, and we discuss the “new” Tik Tok Cake Cutting Trick that honestly isn’t all that new for us Youtubers!
Summer Baking: Galettes vs. Pies
Wisconsin Public Radio, an NPR affiliate, put out an article titled: Forget Trying To Bake The Perfect Pie. Galettes Are Easier To Make And Better For Summer. The Madison bakery owner interviewed had a lot of thoughts about galettes, which are essentially free-form pies that you put the sweet or savory filling in the center of and then fold the pie crust over. There is SO much to say and unpack here.
Are galettes better than pies? Is one a better option over the other for summer? Should you use fresh or frozen fruit while baking? How do you keep the fruit juices from running? Of course, I bring all of my thoughts to the table… and I don’t hold back!
Try or Toss: Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls, Rose Berries, and Oreo Sushi
@siennas.sweets #oreosushi #oreodesserts #fyp #oreodessertrecipe #chocolatefood #pleasemakethisvirall #easyrecipesforkids
In this new fun game, Mia tells me about a few recipes, desserts, or foods that she’s seen this week and asks me if I would try them or toss them. Join us on the show to hear what I think about Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls, Driscoll’s Rose Berries, and Oreo Sushi Rolls… made famous by Tik Tok, of course. Can’t wait to be with you on the airwaves! Let Mia and I know if you’d try these too, @BiggerBolderBaking everywhere!
Until Next Week…
